I have been so out-of-my-head busy that I can't even explain it. I'm so happy to be done with so much now, though. After this Tuesday I don't have flute ensemble again until end of November. I'll have so much free time on Tuesdays. Thank heavens, too, because I really need time now. So Friday's two concerts went relatively well, I suppose. The first one... we found pretty much as many ways as possible of messing up that piece. It's a darned good thing we really know the piece now, becuase otherwise we'd never have recovered. I actually made very few mistakes, but our first player was all over the place and made a few odd mess ups that I'd guess were nerves. At one point we were going into a repeat and she didn't play what was written there, making me think she was playing the second ending, so I turned the page and started playing a couple of bars before realizing that wasn't the case. I then played a few of the bars from the first by memory, messed up a few bars, then turned the page back. All in all we didn't sound too bad, though, and the people whom we were playing for we so ignorant as to feel it was an amazing performance. They goggled at us when we said we'd only been playing together since the beginning of the semester and one person suggested we record things together. Umm. Yeah. So apparently we're all going to get letters of thanks and whatnot from the SUNY senate. Whoo boy, hose me down. Eh, I'm just happy it's done and over with. So after that I headed off to do the Ethos concert. Our piece was on second, and I didn't have terribly long to wait until we got to play. I was rather a bit nervous about the whole endeavor since in the maybe three rehearsals we had on this piece we never actually once played it entirely correctly. While we were back stage and the composer wasn't in the immediate vicinity I turned to the vocalist (an amazingly talented baritone) and asked if he thought this was really going to work. He laughed at me. I'm still not sure if I was joking or not. Anyhow, we went on and performed the piece. It was actually entirely correct, I think, for the first time ever. I was amazed. It really went rather well, and I have no idea why, but yet again I was completely not nervous. In all these concerts actually I haven't been nervous. I didn't even think about it until maybe yesterday. Huh. I really should have been for some of these, too. During the Ethos concert I had a rather large solo with somewhat complicated runs, during the flute ensemble concert I had significant leading parts. I guess I genuinely know how to not get nervous. So after two concerts I went to a "party." Well, a party being sort of relative, I guess. My friends don't party the way other people party. I think we had almost everyone there over twenty one, but we had absolutely no drinking. We sat around and discussed lots of things.... Religions, concerts, metal, careers... It was really enjoyable, but completely not party-like. Well, we had cider, donuts and some chocolate things. I suppose that's as party-like as we get around here. I really like Morde'an's friend, Jackie, who is head of Sound Services. And Mark, who used to be involved with that organization was there, too. I wish I knew as much as these people... *sigh* Ignorance sucks. Meanwhile before the party there was this whole saga going on.... Mark was coming up for someone's birthday as a surprise, and so had to hide himself. He kept calling our room trying to get Morde'an and leaving messages with me of, "now I'm in the Sound Services office." "We've moved to Jackie's room." "I'm downstairs in the campus center." I put up a "Mark Update" portion of our white board. It was fun. So on to the party. I'm apparently pretty good at these kind of parties. Everyone thinks I'm funny. I guess I am, a bit, but only in real life. Too bad, since I seem to be spending so much social time online. I really enjoyed myself, though. Wish I could do these things more often. After the party I went and sat night desk from two to seven. Ouch. It's amazing, though.... After the concerts.... I got so many compliments. While I was sitting desk someone I've never seen before came up to tell me that he really thinks I play well. *shrug* I think I can perform now. Damn, but I'm happy about that. So that was my exciting weekend. Now I have time to breathe, so I'm spending time with Cara and Susan. Bless. We're going wine tasting today. Umm. Yeah. *shrug* Eh, I'll just be happy to spend time with them. ...And it's about time to go.
